Wargame

This time around I've brought to the table one of my desktop favorites: Solar Vengeance. This gem by Silicon Commander Games weighs in at only 3.99 MB, but don't let the small size fool you- some of the best tactical battle-games I've played have been with this game! This title is a classic WYSWYG game, but of the 4X variety. While there is a basic story that helps to set the scene, there is no continuing thread of story from one battle to the next- rather you fight one war after another.
The Galaxy played in is 2D, however the maps vary in size from small to VERY large. SV boasts single player against A.I. as well as multiplayer battles via the internet. Without re-hashing too much, the Galaxy has star-systems, planets, resources, tech-levels, wormholes... well, you get the idea. Also, there are a total of 22 Starship types, though you select 6 to start with and can expand inventory by conquering an enemy or via a technology bonus.
So Dave, why DO you like this game?
Simple- while SV provides an accurate map (close/long-range) with a wealth of information, there are no distractions- SV is all about tactical warfare (in space!!!) and nothing else, making the game very easy to jump into and out of. Furthermore, SV allows for different types of enemy A.I. (with personalities) that the player can define- everything you need to know to create your very own enemy is provided in the game documentation as well as how to create your own scenarios as well. No time to be creative? SV has a player community that lists a multitude of A.I. brains to download as well as plenty of scenarios to keep you busy for a long-time to come. Have a look over at Silicon Commander Games and take a look and take it for a test-drive:-)
