Top-down EVA Indie Style

Many weeks ago I mentioned I'd be back with more samples of the Indi Community's better (best?) free-form space games. So, here I am. Of course, this weeks sampling is not the final list- rather a continuation of the previous blog and there will be more to follow. With that in mind, here are two more of my favorites:

Jack of all Trades

Jack of all Trades (JOAT hereafter) is a fine game from Indi developer, Dingo Games. JOAT is a top-down pick-your-own career space-game. Options include buying and selling of commodities, investing in galactic stocks, taking bounty or cargo-run missions, and there is one BIG galaxy-spanning mission to take part in if you so choose. JOAT boasts a large galaxy of planetary systems divided by various political factions. Like many of the free-form space games, JOAT offers a variety of starships to purchase as well as various upgrades. All-in-all, JOAT is an elegant game- Dingo Games has packed a lot of fun into a very small package, and there is plenty of casual adventure to be had with "Jack".

Flatspace 1 and 2

Over the course of the last several years, Cornutopia Games has released both Flatspace 1 and 2. Both of these games are top-down, free-form games that allow the player to choose a profession(s) and have fun in a very large galaxy. The primary difference between the two games is that the second game offers improved graphics, aliens, and more gameplay options. The Flatspace games offer a great deal of depth in it's details, exploration on a grand scale, and discovery for the player that will keep one busy for a very long time. In summary: if you enjoy gorgeous graphics and a brilliant soundscape coupled with a wonderfully fleshed-out universe that is also very fun, you owe it to yourself to give it a try!

Both of these games (JOAT and Flatspace) are very fun and addictive games for both similar and different reasons and are well-worth a closer look! So, with that having been said, stop reading and start playing!!

You've gotta check this one out!

In late March, Indie developer Klei Entertainment unleashed their game "Eets". This is a puzzle game wherein you get to lead the character Eets to puzzle-pieces by manipulating his emotions with food.

Hhhmmmm... that sentance up there... it just doesn't do the game justice. O.K., how about this?

This game is vibrant, colorful, funny, explosive, and one of the most original game ideas I've seen in quite awhile!

Better?

This game has it all; marshmallows, choco-clouds, ginseng, and pigs. Go on now, quit lookin' at the cute picture of Eets here, go check it out!
